Dance, Music, Multimedia, and More.
Dr. Šara Stranovsky is a trilingual multi-dispclinary artist. She identifies with the terms dancer, songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and multimedia artist. With Slovakian roots and an upbringing in between the mountains and the city, Šara’s artistry reflects the contrasts between rural and urban, American and global, soft and fierce. She draws from her language-focused education (Middlebury College, UCLA, and Sarah Lawrence College in Paris) as well as life experiences living in Vermont, Colorado, Venice Beach, France, Senegal, Brazil, and the Cape Verdean Islands, culminating in cross-cultural and cross-platform versatility. Site-specific works in nature, off-Broadway (Fuerza Bruta NYC), immersive events (Virgin Voyages, You Are So Lucky, House of Yes), and physical theater (Park Avenue Armory, Only Child Aerial Theater) are some of her favorite interdisciplinary settings. With collaborations and ethnographic work in Cabo Verde, Brazil, and Senegal, Šara’s scholarly background in Culture and Performance Studies has inspired much of her creative work. When she isn’t teaching others how to respectfully collaborate across cultures, Šara works as a musician, dancer, photographer, and ethnographic storyteller. Click Dance or Music to see performances loosely linked to that discipline with much crossover.
